An original E+WJR station. Joint with GWR the two lines ran
parallel with each other and it wasn't unknown for rival trains
to
race each other along this section! Re-signalled in 1960, a new
signal box being constructed, the middle platform was almost
completely removed to allowing a smooth transition from the GWR
to
the SMJ to aid the flow of goods trains across to the new south
curve at Stratford.
