‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. Interesting! I've always meant to get over the other side of the A43 to get a look at the link between the Lloyds sidings and the Easton Neston Quarries. Does anybody know whether it's strictly private property, or have any SMJ members been over there before?
There is a footpath that crosses the old siding which starts from the A43, opposite the 3rd lodge. I have planned to do this walk for some time now, just waiting for some better weather. From the footpath you should be able to pick up the old line, and head NE towards Tiffield and the flooded clay pit / brick works site. Strictly speaking the site is private property and there is pheasant shooting in the area at weekends.
