‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

An improbable, funny, but absolutely true story relating to the Kineton military railway.Long after my Army days I still retained an affection and passing interest in Kineton ammunition depot where I served during the 1960s. Coupled to a 'love' of…Continue

Electric train staff equipment had been brought into use between Blisworth and Towcester by 9 August 1910 (date of SMJR minute 451 (TNA file RAIL 674/3)) and presumably the new signal box at Blisworth appeared at the same time. In that this was so…Continue

Retrieved from Blisworth Station after closure. Cast iron letters on wooden backed sign. Would have been painted white letters on black background.
PASSENGERS ARE REQUESTED TO CROSS THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE LINE BY THE SUBWAY
Was this a subway from the Northampton side of Blisworth Station to the SMJR side?
Thanks for all the info, the track plan was especially useful. I have been trying to obtain some aerial photos of Blisworth Station, but no luck yet.

We used to go into the booking hall and then go under the subway to get to the island platform. There we caught the 4.30 home, always a push and pull train ( I think it had come from Weedon or Daventry.) To get to Blisworth we caught the 8.46 from Northampton, as I recall; on one occasion we were in the last coach, a non-corridor job, which had stopped short of the platforms. After shouting at the guard, we managed to get him to pull the train forward so we could get off!

On the attached plan of Blisworth station you can just make out the subway at the south end of the station linking the SMJ and the two main line platforms.

There was certainly a subway linking the up and down main line platforms.
