Idly thinking away following the line tour the other day and reading about the revival of the S&D that seems to be coming on in leaps and bounds, I was wondering - one of those "What if" questions and it is:
If possible to have preserved or set up a preservation line as part of the SMJ - what bit would you have gone for and why?

-In present days terms it would have to be Binton station site as the only complete station & goods shed still intact.

I think that you are right - there is not much left standing elsewhere.

Yes I think if setting up today Binton would be the best bet although the site would limit what you could set up and utilise and I think the line would be short but better than nothing though.
Binton would be nice to see laid out again. Nice to dream isn't it?
I think if able to have been around about 50 odd years ago I think I'd've gone for Towcester to Bliswoth for the mainline connection, with Towcester as the main centre due to the available land.
Failing that Stratford to Fenny Compton for the connection there and the main centre being Stratford for the tourism potential and the space there too.

I'm involved with a group resurrecting the S+D. People say that can't be done. May-be not, in full. It certainly won't be done by next Thursday! They (we)'ve bought Midford station, and a number of other bits and bobs - it can be done. I'll enquire what a good strategy might be from my contacts.

Of course, there is always the bit of the line at Fenny Compton - should it ever come available. Could be extended to Kineton.
As you say, you can always dream.
Jim.
Jim,
I'm afraid you'll find a section of the line between the army depot and Kineton has disappeared reclaimed as farmland.

You make a good point. The Binton event may-be has been a catalyst to the museum idea and that a little 'presence' at Stoke Bruerne would be a good, and 'do-able' and a good place to start - thoughts?

Stoke Bruerne station is still there, though a private residence. A scheme to fit in with the canal museum at SB would have been a good shout. Also, to fit in with previous suggestion, Towcester to SB? No chance now, with A43 in the way.
