‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

0-6-0ST No 49, Blisworth Mines

In April 1967, 0-6-0ST No 49 stands beside the shed at RTB's Mines at Blisworth. Yet another trip to Blisworth without seeing this engine working. This was a lovely Spring day and we went there in my brother's Ford Anglia. He took his camera - I must find out if he also took some pictures. No 49 was out of use, judging by the junk sticking out of the cab. I never did see it move under its own power.
