‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

Are these the right colours for an SMJR sign. My dad had one which we sold for about £80 about 15years ago to a young bloke from Dunstable who had a fantastic collection of stuff including 2 WC nameplates with crests. It was white with black writing as last painted (in BR days?) but I seem to recall seeing somewhere that in SMJR days those colours would have been reversed ie.black with white writing. We didn't realise the importance of not restoring such items at the time, so as it was rusty Dad sand papered it down and gave it a coat of grey primer!
