‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

Charwelton's ironstone workings would have been just off the top of this map. Woodford New yards were built possibly later north of the shed yard sidings shown on the map (north of the Byfield Road).The Old Yards would have been in place by this time on either side of the mainline just between the two brown roads. this looks very much like a WW2 time map which may have onitted the site of the yards for security reasons. The triangular junction with the SMJ would be just off the bottom of themap.
