‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

Thanks for that Si. I had forgotten that one. We didn't see it on the tour but then as you and Andy have said, the atmosphere is one of "visitors not welcome.".
I look forward to seeing any more photos Nigel.

Thanks for the info. I aim to visit this siding again in the near future and take some close-up photos with, hopefully some running numbers and try to ascertain the original builders.

There is a Midland Railway Van body at Morton Pinkney Station that was in situ when the line was open, perhaps as a store. It is now in the grounds of a private house and builders yard that is on the site of the station building. It's still there now and I used to play in it in the 1980s. It's in very poor condition but must me a historic item. It was on the end of the cattle dock. They and the platforms have since been removed by the owner who is not keen on visitors, even though I know him!

The other is near Fenny Compton.
