‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

0-4-0ST "Siemens at Blisworth Mines

It's April 11 1967 and time is running out for steam in Northamptonshire. Blisworth Mines, run by Richard Thomas Baldwins, closed in September 1967, but here we have the 0-4-0ST "Siemens" blasting uphill from the SMJ exchange sidings with six empties and pulling an old brake van. She will then coast down to the quarry. You didn't need a trip to Shap to get some sound and fury!
