‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

This fence post is still there and sits on the short stub of track bed, now used as a footpath between the Lucas bridge and the A43. I have images of the trackbed in the 80.s and it seems as if local farmers chopped the section up (from the Lucas bridge to Greens Norton Junction) and gated sections off. I'm working on this being once such post.

After closure the tracks were lifted. The trackbed was clear and not overgrown as now so local farmers chopped it up into sections and to keep cattle in put up fences and posts for gates. This is one such post.
