‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

andy,only too happy to assist with your sidmouth branch in any way i can cadhay gates in particular please give me a bell one evening to discuss.as for SMJ have spoken to lenny haynes shall be seeing him in a couple of months armed with note book to write it all down including the poems.might i suggest you do an interview with lennyfor having worked on the SMJ he is a fountain of knowledge.evan dynes and his antics are better left to aphone call!!! am not surprised geeves from towcester hesitated(ha ha) if you want to see steam come out of lennys ears just mention evan dynes(ha ha ha) i knew him too he reminded me of relief station master maurice phare later axminster station master no further comment on line (ha ha)
