‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

It was in the BRJ and accompanied the Towcester article. I cut and pasted it together to get it on one page. It really is a very long station! If you want a copy, I'll e-mail the scan to you or post you an A3 copy.

This is the LMS era Rating Plan for Towcester Station after the rebuilding and the closure of Greens Norton Junction box. There is a mysterious addition to the plan. The looped sidings added to the North of the station building (in a field at the rear of the Hesketh Hotel and Cattle mart does not appear to have ever existed. Was this a proposal (there is a faint trace of another loop under the darker version too)? If so, what was it for? Cattle traffic? Or possibly something connected with WW2 traffic in the area.
