‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

Thanks Andy. Well spotted! That's why the pic had the tag "MORE East and West Rly parcel waybills". I wonder how many more there are? Still, it is perhaps a good idea to have a record of SMJ artifacts still in existance. Is there a list? I've got a couple of cast iron signs which I could add if so. Where are you based? i used to live in Stratford (1955 - 1970) so have some memories of the Old Town station and WD 9Fs crossing the GWR main line towards Broome, but mainly the new loop and iron ore trains going past the racecourse station .
