‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

Rail tour ticket 1951

This tour took place on 14th July 1951. It was organised by Mr Eric Tonks and a full and fascinating account of the trip is given on the Olney Model Railway Club website. Motive power was ex LMS 4f 0-6-0 No 44057. At the end to round off a full and most interesting day participants were each given an outline account of the line by C.R.Clinker.
