‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

E & W Junc Rly boundary marker plate cast by the Royal Label Factory Stratford on Avon circa 1907

These markers were only used in the area of the Ettington Limestone Co (Goldicote Quarry) The E & W placed them following a dispute over the land occupied by the exchange sidings. Unfortunatly the details of this dispute and the extent that the boundary markers were used is not known. See Forum discussion on Ettington Limestone Co for further info.
