‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

0-4-0ST "Blisworth No 1"

"Blisworth No 1" couples up to empty wagons and prepares to head down to the quarry on April 5 1966. The staff here were very friendly, although I was never allowed down to the quarry "just in case - you're a bit young to be down in the quarry." I didn't care - I loved the shed area with all its action. According to Tonks, "Blisworth No 1" was the last steam locomotive to be sold on for further use by an industrial concern, although in the event she was only used for spares.
