‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

My late Father's photographs

Dear All,

I have just posted the last of my late Father's SMJ photos on the site.

I have included a photo of an LNWR chair at Roade in the "Towcester to Olney, summer 1961" album.

I have included 2 photos of No.1000 arriving at Blisworth and a photo at Fenny Compton in the "27/5/61 railtour Midland Compound 1000" album.

I have posted a photo of the remains of Wappenham Station in the "Northampton & Banbury Junction Railway" album.

I have put 14 photos in the "Towcester Station c.1966" album.

Roger Coleman and Joe Rajczonek kindly included several of my Father's photos in their books titled "Steaming into Northamptonshire" and "Railway images around Northamptonshire". If you have one of these titles, my Father's name was L W Roy (Leslie).

Many thanks for posting these and the previous pictures. Some interesting angles of Towcester station from the approach side, although rather sad to see the dilapidation. But still, great to see new photos!
