‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

Funny Story about Kineton Military Railway 2 Replies

On 12th & 13th September, members of the Leamington and Warwick Model Railway Society will be at the National N Gauge Show (Warwickshire Exhibition Centre, Fosse Way, Nr Leamington Spa) displaying the plans for our model of Kineton Station. The intention is for the model to be ready for its first display at our own Club exhibition in March 2017.

As most of you know, apart from the bridge, the whole Kineton Station site has been obliterated by an industrial estate. Furthermore, the sad fact is that many people who now live in the area have absolutely no awareness that a station ever existed. Therefore, although construction of the model will start within the next few weeks, we will continue to carry out background research with a view to creating a local archive that will help raise local awareness and place the model into its historic and social context.

With numerous SMJ members working on models of their own local stations, the strapline at the top of this page "Gone but not forgotten - the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth" is extremely apt. We may not be able to bring back the line, but through our interest, networks and models, we are celebrating its history and keeping its memory alive.

If any SMJ members are planning to visit the N Gauge Show, please come and have a chat with us on stand GG, where you will be made most welcome.

Can't remember if it was you but someone was after pix of Kineton. I put in a search for Kineton Station on Google  Images and there's one or two that are new to me there.

Dick,

It was me rather than Mark, but we are working together on this.

Thanks for the response, I'll take another look through that route.
