Not sure if others are aware of the significant amount of documents held by the National Archives on the SMJ. The collection consists mainly of Directors Minutes etc. There is also a collection of early 20th C timetables, handbills etc. which I have…Continue

Hi all
I'm getting reasonably close to completing a book entitled "History of the SMJ and its constituent companies" which I hope will see publication in the not-too-distant future, although that will be down to the publisher !
However, I'm now looking at illustrations, and have two obvious gaps which I would really like to fill.
Aston-le-Walls - I can't find any photos with the siding track actually still in place
Green's Norton "junction" - similarly, plenty of views with the Stratford line track in place but none so far with track on the Banbury line.
Also - does anyone know of the source of the two photos of the original Green's Norton junction (when it was really a junction) that appeared in Joe Rajczonek & Richard Coleman's book "Railway Images around Northamptonshire" (pictures 8 & 9)
I've tried the authors but with no success!
Both Aston and Greens Norton lost that part of their track around the same time - early 1950's - so I remain hopeful that somebody might have got there and taken a photo, although they were both quite remote places.
If anyone can point me towards a reproducible original print of either I would be very grateful
Thanks

Hi Barry
Good luck with the final stages of your book. If you've not already started a subscription list, please put me down for a copy once published.
Best wishes
Mark
Thanks Mark-that's one sold!
Still a way off yet, but it won't be by subscription. However I will certainly keep everyone in touch as we get nearer, and let you know the actual date of publication. Sometime next year is the best estimate at the moment, and it looks like two volumes to cover the whole period through from 1866 to the present day.
Best wishes
Barry
