‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

I've recently checked and edited as necessary the headings for each picture in the ' Photos ' section of this website so that the location of the picture if known is named. I've done it this way as there have been technical snags when I've tried the tags method. I hope I haven't offended any of the original photographers by this editing. Many thanks to Andy, Peter and Gary among others who have checked out their photos and answered numerous questions about locations.

As a result if you type an placename ( eg. Towcester, Blisworth, Stratford, etc.) into the box beside the magnifying glass ikon below 'All related SMJ Photos' then 'click' on the the little magnifying glass it will find all the pictures of that place. Other searches should also be possible.

I've also put together in the 'Albums' section, albums of Industrial locos, Blakesley and Morton Pinkney and intend to do others in the future. Andy has put together albums of documents and Towcester. The good thing about clicking on an album is that you can watch a slideshow. If anyone has any suggestions for other albums let us know. It may be possible for other people to use everyones photos to produce albums of other stations but I don't know if this is technically possible.

There are now albums which can be viewed as slideshows for just about every station or section of the SMJR system. I've discovered that each album is allowed a maximum of 100 pix before it is full. This limit has only affected certain locations such as Towcester.

If you want to see all the best SMJR steam age pix that we have on site then 'The SMJ Remembered' is the best album to view.

Unfortunately there are some stations where there are not enough or in one case no pictures to put together an album. If you have any pix of Ettington, Bidford on Avon or Binton in particular these would be a useful addition.

To reach these Albums

Click on Photos link at the top of the page ,then select 'All Albums'.
