‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

Passenger Trains connected to the SMJ

Following on from the previous discussion about WD passenger trains on the SMJ during the 1940s; it must be said that passenger trains ran on metals connected to the SMJ until the mid 1960s. There was a passenger service from the nearest point to…Continue

Wartime passenger trains from Burton Dassett 3 Replies

Arthur Jordan in his book, The Stratford Upon Avon and Midland Junction Railway - The Shakespeare Route at pp 82 mentions a WW2 late night special from Stratford on Avon to Burton Dassett for soldiers at the CAD. I would envisage that this did not…Continue

To all members /supporters,

Last year we had an excellent get together at Stratford on Avon, why not then a recall meeting at possibly the same venue next year?

A wonderful opportunity to exchange ideas, thoughts, experiences & show off our models & 'bit of collections' relating to the SMJR.

Let's all put all put a series of possible dates together to see what can be achieved.

Sounds good!!!

Count me in!

Jim.

Great idea for debate meeting -- can it be 'this end of the line' however -- Northampton or Towcester??

Great idea!!

As a fairly new member I would welcome a get-together. Before the majority of the line closed I went on one or two railtours in the 1960s. I particularly remember one from Fenny Compton to Broom Junction, where I remember seeing the points clipped and padlocked before passage of the train, and then on through Alcester. I also remember seeing bits of CAD Kineton.

Yes, a  very good idea to get together as i just missed last year before i joined. I certainly will bring plenty of photographs of the S.M.J. around Stratford in the 1950 's. including the last passenger train.  Brian England.

Yes would look forward to another get together at Stratford on Avon the sooner the better, really enjoyed the last one Ray Hughes.

Good day out. Thoroughly enjoyed it last time. Would come to another. Suggest  late spring / summer as the days are longer and likely to be dryer under foot should we walk some of the trackbed.

Brilliant idea. Spring or Summer. Looking forward to it.

If I can, I'll be there!
