‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

Ladies & Gentlemen of the SMJ

The planned date for our second SMJ get together is nearly upon us and things seem to have gone quiet on the site. I hope that our second get together will be as successful, if not better than the first one - but I need some help.

Please can anyone who has SMJ memorabilia they can bring along please contact me. Remember, the get together is at Stoke Bruerne on the weekend of 11th and 12th of June and is part of the Stoke Bruerne Canal Gala weekend so as well as meeting and greeting with some of your fellow SMJ members, you can have a look round the canal gala too! If you haven't been, may I recommend it!

Please feel free to mention the event to any friends who have SMJ connections, if you have connections with a preserved steam line in the area please do what you can to raise the profile of our event and please generally – RAISE THE EVENTS PROFILE! Any thoughts welcome!

I intend to come up on the Friday like before to set up – if you want to meet and chat over a pint I’d love to see you!

Many thanks, as ever for your support

I shall probably be around Stoke on Friday evening. I intend to be at the Get Together early on Saturday  but will probably have to leave early afternoon as I'm travelling down to Sussex that day as well.

Last year couldn't make it due to illness, this year didn't get to the social calendar fast enough. Maybe third time lucky...

Many thanks to all who came along today to Stoke Bruerne. A very big thank  you must go to Alwyn for bringing along another, and different range of SMJ memorabilia. Thanks for your help Alwyn, it wouldn't have been half as good without your input.

Images to follow soon. Hopefully some sound recordings in a few days time.

Andy/Alwyn,

Many, many thanks for laying on yesterdays meeting.  It was really enjoyable.  It was good to meet those site members that attended too.  It makes one feel quite sane, knowing that there are other SMJ fans out there and they aren't nuts!

I have a few promises to keep up.  I will fire up the scanner later this week and get to it.  Best wishes and thanks to you all.

Yours in regularity,

Si

I know what you mean! "You mean to say there are other nutters out there who like the same railway as I do!!?? Oh my god, I'm cured!!"

Good to finaaly meet you Si, thanks for your support and good luck in securing the 'trip'.

Andy

PS Dump the profile photo Si - looks nothing like you (and about 50 years older!)
