‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

4F #43924, an ex-SMJ loco is once more looking like it's old self; having had a new (or maybe refurbed) boiler lifted into place recently. Did anyone else see the photo in last months 'Railway Magazine - P66?

How about someone put together an email to the Railway Magazine at railway@mortons.co.uk expressing the societies pleasure in seeing an Ex-SMJ loco rise from the ashes etc etc. May-be too we need to make contact with the Keighley & Worth where the loco is based and may-be suggest a partnership in someway with the SMJ Society and the loco?

Has anyone any further thoughts?

Andy,
Putting together an e-mail to both the K&W and Railway magazine explaining links of the loco to the SMJ might give the Society some more free exposure....

Some details would be needed, of course, for the writer...

Good point. May-be an email to the K+W first to express an interest and connection. At the same time we could offer to support the cause - say having smj.me sponsor the build and mention on our banner (a la Hengist on Steam Tube).

We'd have more to write about to the Railway mag!

Hi Andy

I did highlight the placement of the boiler on the frames on a different thread when I first say the picture a month or so ago.

Perhaps "we" - as in the society - could charter a run at some point? You hear of photo charters and such and see the results in the magazines - I'm sure a prototypical consist could be made up for us.

Hey, you keep your 'prototypical consist' to yourself!  These are all great ideas - anymore?  (off to look up what a prototypical consist is)
