‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

Hello Stuart..Thank you for the background information! My own paternal grandparents lived at Rickyard Farm CC..probably they were still there in the late 1960s into the 70s... (Lewis) And my Dad had several brothers..and they pretty much constituted the village football team (1930/40s)..My own recollection of their reputation is that they would have given 70s Leeds Utd a run for their money!!

Do you have any photographic material of the SMJ line?

Kind regards,

Peter
