‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

This group of photographs is of books and pamphlets found, by chance, in a charity shop in Alcester last week. They were tied in a bundle with a cryptic note " A Collection of Steam Railway Memorabilia belonging to a railway engineer." G.Lowe is mentioned here, and in another of the ASLEF books are separate copies of a disciplinary notice against said person, committed whilst shunting at Burton Dassett Sidings on 6th June 1958, for which he received a "strong verbal caution"
