‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

Bridge taking the Bridleroad to Stuchbury over the trackbed. Behind the trackbed leads into a field called "Gallows Field" so called because highwaymen were hung there after being caught on the old road which is now the B4525.
Also in this field an inquest in took place in 1871 into the death of Samual Stanton. He was one of the workmen who was employed in the construction of the line.He was a local man, from Marston St lawerence, married with three children. He was killed when the cutting they were working on collapsed. The accident took place in the parish of Stuchbury so must have been North of the road bridge and before the bridge pictured.
