‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

Ravenstone Wood Junction
I am standing on the fragmented remains of the SMJ (by then just a few yards of track) on April 29, 1966 as Bryan and I are about to commence our walk to Towcester and Blisworth. The missing signal arm allowed trains to take the SMJ to Towcester. This view faces towards Olney.

If you go to Ravestone wood junction now its somewhat over grown. The junction is there as are the stumps of the sawn off telegraph poles! Andy
