‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

SMJ Walk - Day 1, Ravenstone Wood Junction - Towcester - Blisworth

When Bryan Jeyes and I decided to walk the whole of the SMJ, we started with a section we had done a year previously and thoroughly enjoyed. This time we loaded our cameras with color film. April 29 1966 turned out to be a beautiful day and I assume we persuaded parents to drive us to Ravenstone and collect us from Blisworth. In fact I have cheated a bit here - we walked Ravenstone to Roade and then Blisworth-Towcester-Roade in two sections, but I've presented them as one walk.
