‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

TOWCESTER BRICKWORKS SIDING C.1885
The main SMJ line (Towcester to Blisworth) is on an embankment at this point. The siding runs from the brick works into Towcester north end of the station, alongside the embankment.
All this was gone together with Lloyds siding by 1900.

The junction to Towcester brick yard siding was just to the south of the signal post on the N & B RLY., c1882. The present A43 dual carriageway cuts across just to the south of this junction.
