‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

The photo was taken on 9/8/1959 from the passing RCTS "Grafton" railtour - which ran from Blisworth to Byfield / Woodford on the SMJ part of its journey.

Are you sure that this was taken from a train, as right up to the final closure of the E&W line the N&B formation was not this overgrown? I ought to remember as we were made to do cross country runs along it! Also right up to the final E&W line closure there was a platelayers hut in use between the intersection of the lines here. Here's a thought though was it taken from one of the demolition trains after the line closed?
