‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. An improbable, funny, but absolutely true story relating to the Kineton military railway.Long after my Army days I still retained an affection and passing interest in Kineton ammunition depot where I served during the 1960s. Coupled to a 'love' of…Continue

Each time I felt I was going to die. Even now, 46 years later, I can feel this signal swaying when I look at this photograph. (April 4 1966)
Hi John, really glad you took the risk to climb the post for this photo. It's fantastic! I was born in Byfield in 1960 and lived there for 24 years, ( my mum still does). I have recently been toying with the idea of building a model of Byfield station, still to work out whether 00 finescale or N, so much information. Thankyou
