‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

Gary,

Another addition to the list: Fowler 4F 44123.
This 4F was regularly on Stratford shed during the mid 50's. I know because I travelled between Stratford and Olney on the footplate most Saturdays on the pick-up goods, and often on 44123.
44123 is currently being restored to full running order by the London Midland Society: www.4123.co.uk on the Avon Valley Railway, Bristol: www.avonvalleyrailway.org

David
Thanks gents.

List duly updated...
There are far more than I thought there would be. Quite impressive isn't it?
This list compiled by Gary can now be also found in the SMJ History section, follow the link at the top of this webpage

Heads up for those who haven't seen it but in the latest Railway Magazine (Jan 2011 edition) there is a photo of "our" 4F 43924 with her boiler now in place and cab fitted.
