‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

Hi Andy
Here's one of the station site that I took in 1974 - not a great shot as the print has lost some colour and it was also quite late in the evening as I remember, but it does show the midway situation after closure but before demolition, whilst Groom & Tattersall had expanded onto the site

Hi Andy - as promised a while ago (couldn't find it !) another shot of the goods shed from 1974 when Groom & Tattersall were using the station area before demolition - perhaps you can use your photoshop magic on this one too!

That last shot is a view I have wanted to see for ages!!! There are so many showing the other side and the ends...
I had no idea that the buildings lasted until the mid 70's. We as a family moved into Towcester in 1979 but I only got interested in the SMJ around 2-3 years later by which time the site looked as in the photo I took at the top.
On here somewhere are the photos I took pre Tesco when the site was cleared. Even then the platforms still existed...
