‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

TOWCESTER STATION.
The railway line from Blisworth to Towcester formally opened on 30th April 1866. The station at Towcester opened for traffic on 1st May 1866, 150 years ago. This is probably the earliest photo of the station under N & B J R control, 1866 - 1910.

The chap who posted this on Flickr also posted it on Facebook on the Towcester History Group page - I put the link up on the comments for our group and hopefully some folks may come and post their memories. There appeared to be a couple of folks who traveled the line and inhabitants of the station house.
