‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

Stoke Bruerne - Very tenuous link with SMJ.
Here's some canal serving tramway rails, one from Blisworth, that are in Stoke's Canal Museum, the museum that David is Chairman of. The nearby Blisworth Grand Union Canal tunnel goes under the Olney - Towcester SMJ line route. Its possible to take a short boat trip from the museum just into the tunnel to a point just short of where the SMJ passed overhead! All very tenuous, but links none the less. Stoke is a nice place to visit, especially when their canal gala is on
(around 11th June in 2010 I think) and many restored traditional working boats visit. I know many rail enthusiasts take perhaps a passing interest in canals. I can also thoroughly recommend the larger museum at Ellesmere Port to anyone remotely interested in canals.
