‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

One perfect evening, shortly before we left the UK in 2006, I actually remembered to take my camera and took a succession of pictures on my way to Bidford, west of Stratford-upon-Avon. Here we are near Salcey Forest, shortly after take-off. The route of the SMJ is in the foreground, with the Northampton-Bedford line above..

Not quite, Andy. The junction is off to the right. Trying to fly and take pictures means I just poked the camera at the window and hoped for the best.
