‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

A quick look through The Railway Magazine for March 1957 reveals that The Gloucestershire Railway Soc announced a rail tour for Saturday May 11th leaving Gloucester Eastgate at 9.45am. The route was - Cheltenham Lansdown, Evesham, Stratford-on-Avon to Woodford Halse where there will be a break for lunch and a chance to visit the loco shed. Then the SMJ line will be regained and the train will proceed to Blisworth, then on to the LNW main line to Wolverton (Carriage Works visit), Then to Bletchley and Banbury (?reverse through the yard), before going on the GW to Kingham and Cheltenham and Gloucester OR via Oxford Road and Yarnton Jcn, Cheltenham and Gloucester. Cost thirty shillings - not bad for all this.
There is no mention of the motive power requested and I cannot - at the moment - find a report of the tour after it had taken place, but I will keep looking.

This is exciting! A new railtour?
I have just found this while editing photos. This is a new tour to me and it's not on Six Bells Junction either. It seems to have taken place as the ticket has been punched.
Does anyone have any info at all about this tour?
