‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

smj carriage print
Sourced ages ago from an Auction catalogue, this is beleived to be a carriage print of an E&WJ or SMJ 2-4-0 and train leaving Stratford in the Blisworth direction. It's interesting because of the colour!

One of the series of paintings commissioned by the L.M.R. (per George Dow ?) from Cuthbert Hamilton Ellis, prints of which were placed either side of the mirror in compartment stock. This one was titled 'Travel in 1895' and is, or was until recently, available as a repro. from the Friends of the National Railway Museum if anyone wants to acquire one.
