‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

During 1963-64 whilest Euston station was being reconstruted much of it,s parcel traffic was sorted on the SMJ platforms, I remember a train leaving for Reading about 6-30 PM as I had to report the loading to Rugby control office ( just spent much time trying to find a working timetable to give you the reporting number and exact time, but as yet to no avail) as for the main line box the very last shift shift regulars were Jack Morrisrow, Bill Skeen and Don Oxley who was among the first intake to Rugby power box when resignalling took place over forty years ago, Does anyone have any pictures of them?

Great shot Adrian - this clearly shows the division between the LNW and SMJ stations at Blisworth. LNW box and other premises are centre background and the SMJ obviously at the end of this platform. The two were connected by a subway under the sidings and WCML and as far as I know, there must have been a joint booking office in the SMJ bit once that railway was opened - certainly it was that way in the 1950's but I wonder if it was always the case. The siding between the two stations was a long shunt which trains used to shuffle across from LNW to SMJ lines - the odd passenger special included.
