‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. Gone but not forgotten: "the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth"
Hi everyone, yesterday I did some magnet fishing with the grandchildren from the SMJ bridge over the river Tove in Towester, to great excitement of the children (and myself) we pulled out three chair screws and a rivet which looked similar in style…Continue

Two LMS notice boards still survive The booking office had a very tiny window through which tickets were purchased. The "station office," as it was labelled, was full of notices and other junk. I was a reporter at the Chronicle and Echo, Northampton, at the time and used to cover Towcester Magistrates Court quite often. The reporter from the Bucks Herald, a very pretty girl, surprised me one day by saying she was getting married and they were buying Blakesley station as their first house. I'm not sure whether this actually happened, as she said there were "issues." April 4 1966.
