‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

I really like the Jones 4-4-4T locomotives of the Metropolitan Railway - except they had outside cylinders. The Met must have been very proud of them at the time they entered service.

You may have heard that this loco was recently damaged by a fire in the Ravenglass paintshop. I've contacted Dr Bob Tebb with condolences and the good news is that the damage could have been much worse and is largely confined to the cab. He's having the repair work done shortly.
