‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

Thanks for the effort. A number of members have had a go with this image including Andy and the results have been very good. The afternoon was not kind with no really good light and rain some of the time. If it had not been for the coating of rust on the rails the loco would have had trouble in one ot two locations!! Photographers will be aware of the problems age has brought to the colour stability of Agfa CT18 film. At the time it was the only 50 ASA product around and seemed to offer some hope of getting a decent slide in non sunlit situations. There were other lineside photographers around but very few images of this afternoon have surfaced.
