‘The Stratford Upon Avon & Midland Junction Railway’ (or S.M.J.) was a small independent railway company which ran a line across the empty, untouched centre of England. It visited the counties of Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and a little of Buckinghamshire, only existing as the SMJ from 1909 to 1923. In 1923 the S.M.J.became a minor arm of the London Midland and Scottish (L.M.S.), then in 1948 'British Railways'

{I'm not promoting this sale but adding it for members' intetest only, thanks.]

A Stratford Upon Avon and Midland Junction Railway bridge weight notice, cast iron, 16½"x11¾", the back repainted. These signs date from prior to the formation of the SMJR and were originally titled EAST AND WEST JUNCTION, STRATFORD UPON AVON, TOWCESTER AND MIDLAND JUNCTION RAILWAY. After the formation of the SMJR, and amalgamation of the E&W Company and the Northampton and Banbury Junction Railway, the wording was chiselled off the signs, leaving the new title. I managed to get this nice one last year

I think if you attach your image with the image button (second from the left) rather than a file (paperclip) it will display on the forum. We should get quite a collection in time!

Thanks.
