<p>Yes indeed, the works plate is just above the centre axle on the outside frame. It's quite small and does look like an oval access hatch!</p>

On the only picture I have of No 16, it looks like there is an oval plate above the middle axle horn on the engine. It's faint and blurry so I'm not sure it's a plate.<br/>

<p>Just checked all the photo's of No 16 in various publications etc. None of the Beyer 0-6-0 or 2-4-0 SMJ or E&WJR Locomotives carried names. I cannot see where the Beyer Peacock plates on 16 were fitted either so I presume that they were fitted to the rear of the tender.</p>
