A close analysis of the 1945 RAF aerial photographs available in the historical imagery resource on Google Earth has provided evidence that Ravenstone Wood was probably a three-way junction during the latter part of WW2 and for an unknown period of…Continue

As part of my research prior to creating a model of the EHLR/SMJ junction at Burton Dassett, I’ve just had the privilege of looking through the original notes and letters produced by Eric Tonks whilst writing his 1948 book “The Edge Hill Light…Continue

Many of you will be aware that in common with all other railway companies the SMJR lost many of its employees for all or part of the Great War as the patriotic duty to volunteer was overwhelming. Railwaymen were technically exempt but many chose to…Continue

Thanks Ray
The paint scheme did look a little odd (hence my query), so its nice to get your follow-up comments. Even though the colours are a bit off, its still nice to see a photo of it, so many thanks for posting it on the site for others to see.
Following on I meant the black border looked original but he had obviously repainted letters in white !
I think I got this hawkseye nearly 30 years ago from someone who had been on one of the last railtours. The black surround and letters looked original but he had repainted the rest in non authentic beige colour .Assume they were all painted black and white towards the end but have seen a fenny compton apparently still in lms yellow. Sold it on a few years later unfortunately so don't know what happened to it. Just thought members might like to see it
Hi Ray
As a resident of Kineton, this photo is of particular interest. Did you repaint it, or was it already done when you got it? The reason I ask is because I'd love to know how close the background colour was to the original. On the current 'mock up' of the hawkseye we are displaying on our LWMRS model of Kineton, our cream background is not quite so pale as that shown in the photo. You say 'owned a long time ago', do you know where it is now?
Regards, Mark
